Think, Act, Be Your Character

A great actor has always to think like his character, act like his character if he wants to make the scene more believable. Heath Ledger and Daniel Day Lewis are masters in it. For his Oscar winning performance at Batman: The Dark Knight, he wrote a journal for weeks as The Joker. He really wanted to make it look more realistic. And he did it. In my opinion, he  was the best Joker ever! He performs it so well, that you watch the movie and you really wants the Joker to beat Batman and become the main character. That was one of the rare times that the supporting actor and the villain was the best actor and the one who got all the attention.
Daniel Day Lewis, the three time Oscar winner, sometimes makes this so absurd that it gets kind of funny. In the movie "Lincoln" he made everyone call him The President for three weeks, ever Mr. Spielberg! This helped him improve his acting and improve other people's acting, because when they are acting it wouldn't be so weird to call him "President". He also learned to speak Czech for his role in The Unbearable Lightness of Being. He trained boxe for 18 months to make a better performance at The Boxer. And he also caught pneumonia while filming Gangs of New York because he refused to wear a toasty modern coat because it wasn’t in keeping with the period. Both great actors. If you ever want to be an actor, follow what this two guys did.
